iPhoto for iOS – I Finally Paid for an Apple App

After having an iPhone for three years, an iPad for a year, and just recently purchased the new iPad, I broke down and paid $5 for the new iPhoto for iOS app – making it the first time I have paid for an app. The reason I did is because I take a ton of photos and I love the simplicity of the desktop version of iPhoto. Keep in mind I am (was) fairly proficient in using Adobe Photoshop, but I have come to a point in my life where I don’t have the time anymore to take an hour editing each photo.

I need something that works well and fast. After having the iPhoto for iOS app for a week my judgement is, although there are a few bugs that need to get worked out that I’m sure will be fixed with some updates, this is the perfect app for me. Here are some samples of photos I edited with the app. Keep in mind the editing on each of these photos took less than five minutes.

Above is the edited version of the train tracks looking north at Cardiff by the Sea. I cropped the photo with a 9×6, used auto enhance, and added the oil paint effect. The unedited version looks like this:

Here is a different picture showing Tower 17 in Cardiff by the Sea.

The edited version above is a stark contrast and shows the real power of iPhoto for iOS. I added auto enhance, used the lightening brush on the lifeguard tower, used the darken brush on the sun and reflection, and used the repair brush on the green dot on the lifeguard ladder.
